Haynes lists no fewer than 17 artists using those kanji. This is Ito Masahisa working in Bushu ca 1700.
According to experts, casting was accepted as a skilled form of metalworking.
This tsuba is made of grey iron which is
ideal for casting small artifacts. The mold used for this tsuba is a 'two piece' or 'take apart' type.
