Authentic Cast Tsuba


Look closely at above photo's. You will see the 'ridge' lines caused by the mold that was used. Also note the rounded edge's.

Authentic Signed Cast Tsuba.
Middle Edo period.
Mei: Masahisa.
Haynes lists no fewer than 17 artists using those kanji. This is Ito Masahisa working in Bushu ca 1700.
According to experts, casting was accepted as a skilled form of metalworking.
This tsuba is made of grey iron which is ideal for casting small artifacts. The mold used for this tsuba is a 'two piece' or 'take apart' type.
Tatemara-gata shape.
6.3cm x 5.8cm x 0.5cm.
