Rokudai (6th) Takahashi Kinai Tsuba

Iron oval plate with carved and sukashi design within the rim of two aoi leaves, they are front at the top and the back at the bottom of the plate, which is reversed on the back of the plate. There are kin (gold) nunome tendrils on the stems and the leaves, on both sides. This is a very classical design for the Kinai school of Echizen.

This is the work of the sixth generation of the Takahashi-Kinai family school.
Originally, the shodai Ishikawa Kinai was a token kirimonoshi (sword engraver). He formed a separate class, and was an eminent craftsman who originated the Kinai engraving method. Kinai family succeeded for six generations in Echizen area as Tsuba making family.
