Decchi Kinai Tsubas of Rokudai Period

Nikubori sukashi tsuba of maru gata-slight nademaru gata shape.
Kaku mimi with silver fukurin. Kozuka and Kogai hitsu ana.
Very thick tsuba. 7.6cm X 7.3cm.

Omote mei "Echizen no Ju" "Kinai Saku" .
Design is "Noshi" strips of paper or ribbons tied in
a knot and given on a card for special circumstances.

Tsuba in design of two Aoi leaves with stalks, done in fine Kin (gold) zogan detail. Shows front and back.
Nadamaru gata shape with kaku mimi rim.
Omote mei is neatly cut "Echizen no Ju" "Kinai Saku".

Kozuka and Kogai ana. Katachi Bori style tsuba.

Exceptional Beautiful Kinai Tsubas.
Mei (of both): 'Echizen no Ju' 'Kinai Saku'. Both tsuba are Decchi Kinai of Rokudai period.
Originally, the shodai Ishikawa Kinai was a token kirimonoshi (sword engraver). He formed a separate class, and was an eminent craftsman who originated the Kinai engraving method. Kinai family succeeded for seven generations in Echizen area as Tsuba making family.
