SEIJO School was founded by Goto-Seijo (Mitsutoyo, died 1734) a metal worker of the Goto school. The second of the school, Seijo-Mitsuzane (died 1750), worked in relief and did inlay in the nunome style. He often used the water dragons on his work and delighted in carving curious flowers. He always signed work that used gold nunome inlay. About this time there was a demand for foreign designs, and this school turned out pieces of work in the Canton style. All members of the school signed 'Seijo'. The sixth Seijo (sometimes known as Harumitsu, Sessai, or Shiunchin) was famed for his excellant composition and detail. This piece decorated with Takaniku-bori and Kin-iroe on Migaki-ji plate. Study excellant pieces of the GOTO RYU . |
