ca 1775-1800 Edo Period, referred to as Renaissance piece.
Tetsu Ishime-Ji Mokko-Gata Nikubori Tsuba. The ground iron is forged and tempered very well. Has a hammered fukurin of iron around the perimeter with slight traces of tekkotsu. Ko-sukashi is present in form of a tortoise. The mixed ground landscapes are expressed by chisel (nikubori) on both sides and there is the familiar kikko (tortoise shell) pattern. The mokko-gata shape is original.
