ONIN / HEIANJO

Return to Tsuba Collective

Provenance: R. E. Haynes Serious Inquiries Only
"Masterpiece of Heian Castle Tsuba. The lion and peonies are old-fashioned and interesting. The stubby face and shape of the seppa-dai also confirms the age. There is a border, so you can see that the two hitsu are naive. Seems to date to the end of the Momoyama period. There is no missing inlay, and it fits in a paulownia box with Hakogaki by Dr. Sato Kanzan, dated mid-Summer 1972. Box lid states 'Heianjo Style'.
This is a perfect addition to any collection." (Haynes & Long)
