A round (maru gata) iron plate with maru mimi that tapers from the center to the edge. Has openwork design of cherry blossom. Though the taste of the iron is simple and looks unsophisticated, the sukashi is very well carved. The samurai code of Bushido is represented in the cherry blossom. The sakura blooms gorgeously and beautifully then quickly falls afterwords. The samurai lives by this principle.
The iron plate is well forged but has suffered from fire, the majority covered in fire scale. Dating to late Muromachi period.
Restoration is under way.
8.52cm x 8.60cm x 0.45cm tapering to 0.30cm.
