"Iron maru-gata shape tsuba with maru-kaku mimi. Though small and meant for a wakasashi, the inlays of brass are done very well. The usual inlays consist of a wheel, chrysanthemums, fret-work, and a locust. It appears that two blossoms have been removed or are just missing. On the reverse, the same designs are inlaid with the addition of a plum blossom and a branch of flowers about to bloom. The iron in the tsuba is excellent and shows a wonderful patina with great age. The single hitsu-ana is lined with a pillow. It is very well made and even with its size, feels powerful and dignified." (Haynes & Long) 7.90cm x 7.95cm x 0.30cm |
