"The old Japanese belief relates that the finest of humanity was the samurai as the finest of flowers is the cherry. The single flower placed boldly on one side represents a faintly gentle mood evocative of a sense of the compassion of the warrior. The lustrous metal, the serene cherry blossom, and the antique-looking chisel marks around the tang hole are indications of late Muromachi period works." (Long)
