"2nd Sadahiro dates to ca 1600.
Octagonal shape with iron ground, square edge. Design of the paper for the Japanese fan. Early Edo period.
Sadahiro is a tsubasmith in Owari, and it is said that there are several generations. At that time, Yamayoshi, Hoan, and the famous Nobuiye were making tsuba in Kiyosu, Owari Province. There are some similarities in style with Yamayoshi and Hoan, which shows that they were making tsuba while interacting with each other at the same time. The active period of the first generation Yamayoshi and Hoan is almost clear, and we can imagine that they were producing tsuba from around the same time, around the Keicho era. In addition, Nobuiye, whose name is bold in his later years, made tsuba very similar to Sadahiro.

This tsuba has an irregular octagonal shape with a slightly thinner structure from the face to the ears, allowing the base paper attached to the fan to be seen through. The style of deformed plate tsuba with watermarks is common to Yamayoshi's first generation. Although it is a simple shape, the flat ground has subtle variations with hammered marks and is grilled, giving it a mysterious atmosphere when combined with the soft shape. When you look at it, it creates a profound atmosphere that makes you feel as if you are having a Zen discussion with the author. Sadahiro is a forgotten figure, and his current reputation is not very high, but since a relatively large number of his works remain, at the time he was considered to be on a par with Nobuiye, Yamayoshi, and Hoyasu. It seems that he was a popular smith." (Haynes & Long)
