'Mitsutada'

PROVENANCE: Robert E. Haynes Elliott D. Long |
$700.00 |
"Iron plate in the form of a five petal cherry flower bloom. Inlaid in high relief with a gourd vine in shakudo and the gourd in dark shibuichi. The reverse without any design or decoration. Signed upper right side of nakago-ana: 'Mitsutada' H 05422.0. This is NOT the famous Umetada Mitsutada, but the very rare and less known Shoami Mitsutada. There is a fully signed example of the work of this artist in the Kurokawa catalog, 1997, page 89 number 81. The style of this example seems to be in that of the Shonai Shoami school, but there is no mention of his having lived in Shonai. Known to have worked in Kyoto, others say Kanazawa in Kaga Province."
