"Oval smooth iron plate that tapers slightly to the edge. With sukashi design of three chidori at the bottom and right of the plate and two 'ito' cut lines of clouds at the top of the plate. Signed: 'KOFU ju MASATOSHI', H 04584.0. He has dated a tsuba 1866. He was of the Edo Ito family school and one of its last members. This is not the Kitani artist of a generation before this man. He does not seem to be recorded by Akimoto (et all) in their 1999 book: TSUBA KO BUSHU ITO HA." (Haynes) |
