ARIKAWA School
|
PROVENANCE: Robert E. Haynes | $480.00 |
"Iron rectangular mokko shape tsuba with slightly raised rim area, the web with gold and shakudo inlay of a sage, with a bull, in a thick gold and shakudo leafy landscape. The reverse with waterfall and gold plants and silver nunome rocks.
There is evidence of a signature on the reverse side but it can not be seen clearly to be read. This would certainly seem to be the work of the Arikawa family school, whose members included Sanemasa (H 07976.0), Saneharu (H 07967.0), Sanetake (H 07996.0), and Sanekane (H 07971.0). See Saneharu for details of this family school. Often one or more of these artists signed on the same tsuba each with a gold plaque with his name on it for the area that they had worked on." (Haynes) 8.15cm x 7.50cm x 0.40cm. |
