"Oval smooth iron plate with gold nunome design of two classical Sendai dragons with six clouds, and a single dragon and four clouds on the reverse. This style of work made in Sendai is to be found on all types of fittings and whole koshirae. They are not signed for the most part, however, vestiges of 'KUNIHIRO' mei are present. Recorded as H 03588.0. Shakudo plate examples are sometimes signed by the father and son, Kusakari Kiyosada, H 03321.0 and H 03322.0, they worked ca. 1780 to 1830. Their work is rather common in the West and can be seen in many collections." (Haynes) |
