"Round iron plate with groups of punch marks, in three's, on both sides of the plate.

Both hitsu-ana are of kogai shape and long and narrow. This is sometimes seen in the work of the Umetada school.

The edge has a few iron bones, but not many.
Naturally this might be the work of a sword smith, but which one, or even which school, we cannot tell.

The plate indicates a date of about 1600." (Haynes)
