GOISHI-GATA
|
PROVENANCE: Robert E. Haynes | $200.00 |
"A round iron goishi-gata (shape of the stone used in playing GO), signed Kunihiro H 03588.0, which is the artist listed as Bushu Kunihiro. There are nine other Kunihiro that I have listed with these same kanji. The majority of the work of this artist will have copper plugs at the top and bottom of the nakago-ana, this one has a slight trace at the top only (see image below). This rare shape, and the quality of the iron plate shows his best work. He seems to have also made blank plates for other artists to decorate. From the shape of the hitsu-ana in this example, he may have been of the Shoami school." (Haynes) 6.9cm x 7.1cm x 0.6cm thick. |
