"Round iron plate, the surface of both sides carved with radiating lines called amida-yasuri (the halo of the Buddha). The rim and edge of this plate has almost every kind of iron bone that you can see. This quality of iron bones is often found on the work of the Shoami school masters. In this case it would be the Sendai Shoami school, who favored this type of carved surface. This tsuba dates from about 1500 and is a very early example of the school work. A very important study piece." (Haynes) |
