"Round iron plate with old brass rim cover. The web carved with the depiction of the legend of Choryo and Koseki (read the legend HERE).

The plate is signed in very faint kanji on the back: 'Echizen ju Kinai saku', H 03170.0, this would be the work of the first Takahashi Kinai school master. Examples of his work are very rare and this example shows his origins in Kyoto at the time he moved to Echizen Province.

Were this work unsigned it would be very difficult to know who might have made it, as the style and the fine carving are pure Kyoto work and it shows none of what was to become the later Echizen Kinai school style.." (Haynes)

8.0cm x 8.0cm x 0.4cm.
