KATCHUSHI (ca. 1450)
|
PROVENANCE: Robert E. Haynes | $750.00 |
"Round iron plate of average thickness, with well formed and hammered edge folded over onto the plate.
The surface of the plate shows the attention to detail found later in the tsuba produced by the Nobuiye tsuba school, though this guard was made more than a hundred years before their time. The mushroom (matsutake) sukashi is typical of the period, and shows great age on the walls of this design. There are many iron bones on the edge of the plate. The shape of the hitsu-ana has been changed from kozuka to kogai at some later date. A great study piece for both the Katchushi and Nobuiye school styles, Circa 1450." (Haynes) |
