KAGA School

Provenance: Robert E. Haynes | $500.00 |
"A very unusual and rare example of Kaga inlay. The slight mokko iron plate has a raised rim. Both sides are inlaid with the typical classical Kaga insect design in gold, silver, copper, shibuichi, and shakudo. Some of the legs of the insects are missing. This must have been a very difficult inlay for the artist and I do not know of another example. All I can guess is that this artist tried to show that he was better than any other Kaga inlay worker up to his time. A very important study piece that seems to date about 1650 to 1700."
