Provenance:   Robert E. Haynes $500.00 each or both for $800.00
"Two related tsuba of great importance as study pieces. Both are iron plate of good quality, one oval, the other a rounded square shape. Each is inlaid in flush brass, the oval example with a raised brass inlay of a bird on a branch of bamboo. Each bamboo stalk and every leaf has finely carved details." (Haynes)
"This type of brass inlay is often referred to as FUSHIMI INLAY. Both also have IRON ON IRON INLAY. The iron on iron inlay was a characteristic of the Fushimi Kaneiye school. I think that who ever made these tsuba were the artists that the Kaneiye school derived from. The Kaneiye simply changed to pictorial designs and used gold and silver inlay for brass. One thing that is sure is that the Kaneiye did not invent iron on iron inlay. A great deal more study needs to be done, starting with these two tsuba." (Haynes)
