OWARI School

The N.B.T.H.K. Green Paper says OWARI. A very rare design for this school. Those who like such things will see a cross at the top center. But if you extend the cross-bar it matches the design on each side. The shape of this piece is hakka-gata or yatsu mokko-gata, 'eight melons'. The four flying geese adorn the hitsu-ana. The elongated seppa-dai contributes to a feeling of age, but the refined surface treatment leads to the later Momoyama period. |
