KYO-SUKASHI
|
Provenance: Robert E. Haynes | Not For Sale |
"Although there are many Kyo-sukashi versions of water plantain leaves, few are as elegant as this one. The slightly narrowed seppa-dai, which causes the hitsu-ana to incline inward, is an indication of age. The antique appearance of the iron also suggests that the guard dates from the inception of the ji-sukashi style. The examples range in date from ca. 1400 to 1500. See examples in books ie: 'Sukashi Tsuba' by Shibata and 'Early Japanese Sword Guards' by Sasano." (Haynes) |
