A large and dominating iron tsuba in muttsu-mokko-gata shape. The tsuchime, yakite, and mass of tekkotsu are at the highest quality. This is at the extreme end of Yamakichibei expression. The motif is of the Owari dango associated with Oda Nobunaga and is very well rendered. The hitsu appear in Shoami shape. Signature: 'YAMAKICHIBEI'. A masterwork of the GODAI (Low-Crossbar) Yamakichibei. As seen here, when he himself made pieces to the best of his ability, he was as good as any other smith in the early Yamakichibei atelier. 8.30cm x 8.70cm x 0.38cm (seppa), 0.45cm (edge) |
