'YAMAKICHIBEI'

PROVENANCE: Steve Waszak Mariusz Kolecki |
$700.00 |
A small iron plate of mokko-gata shape, its forging and its tsuchime, and the classic Yamakichibei yakite-shitate treatment, confirms an early 17th century guard. The hitsu-ana are of kozuka shape but of different size. The lone sukashi in the upper-right quadrant is of a small Dharma doll, representing the Zen aesthetic. The nakago-ana has copper inserts. Signed: 'YAMAKICHIBEI'. This is the GODAI master smith of the Momoyama Yamakichibei workshop. Appears to have been made by the master, rather than being a daisaku/daimei piece. The workmanship expresses more feeling and power. Dates to ca. 1600. 6.20cm x 6.70cm x 0.40cm |
