OWARI Tsuba
|
Provenance: Elliott Long | $500.00 |
"Kiku maru gata iron tsuba of sukashi design of ginger shoots forming the hitsu-ana, which are connected along with the seppa to the rim with sixteen birds. The workmanship and design is also seen in Higo tsuba, but there the edges of the sukashi tend to be somewhat beveled. Seems to be 1st period Owari (ca 1500) based on the quality of the iron. The finish appears a little coarse, but the solidity and strength of the piece reflect the Owari style of the Muromachi period." (Long) |
