Return to Tsuba Collective

Provenance:    Elliott Long NFS

"This tsuba (sword guard) bears the signature of Owari Yamakichibei and is a typical example of what is known as a "gaerome" tsuba. Made of high-quality iron, it features meticulous Amida filing and a worm-eaten pattern, giving it a wabi-sabi aesthetic. The inside of both hitsu-ana (holes) are fitted with brass retaining plates, hinting at its history." (Long)

8.31cm x 7.52cm

It has a hakogaki by Noda Kiyoshige, the sixth head of the Amiya family, and was a metalworker from the Edo period, from the Owari Kanayama Yagyu school.
