"Hakkaku (octagon) shaped well forged iron plate tsuba with a uchikaeshi mimi and is an excellent example of the combination of the famous kebori tortise-shell design, tekkotsu and yakite shitate surface finish that the early Nobuiye artisans are renowned for. There is a sukashi of the knife (nata) used for cutting bamboo. Both hitsu-ana are original. A dark chocolate-brown patina is present and untouched. Mumei. Though unsigned, a very early (pre 1600) example of work by Nobuiye." (Long) |
