"Large iron plate with sukashi of the moon. Both faces are carved and gilded with minimal loss of gold inlay. The hitsu-ana is large and plugged with decorated lead. The nakago-ana is very large and altered more than once. There appears to be a carved seppa in a Chinese style. The fukurin is of shakudo and finely applied. The iron itself seems dense with a natural patina. It has been folded, evidenced by a small forging flaw above the hitsu-ana and inside sukashi of moon. Appears to date ca. 1500 or even earlier." (Haynes & Long) 7.71cm x 6.98cm x 0.39cm at seppa. |
