"A masterpiece by Fujiwara Mitsunobu, resident of Matsuyama, Yoshu. Edo period (1789), aged iron tsuba "Chrysanthemum Design" with iron base, rounded, square edges, suki-shita carving and suki-deshi carving.
A copy of the featured page in Wakeyama, vol. III, Pg.226 shows complete signature. Also in Kokubo Pg.389 lower right side. Refer to Haynes Index H05331.0.
This rare tsuba, crafted by Fujiwara Mitsunobu (H 05331.0) of the Shoami school of Iyo Province, is dated Kansei Year of the Rooster. While slightly worn, the fine jigane is of high quality and feels comfortable in the hand. The chrysanthemum design is meticulously executed using both suki-shita carving and suki-deshi carving techniques." (Long)
