"Rare, Kyoto-style openwork tsuba. This piece is made of refined iron, with slight traces of the iron frame visible on the rim. The smooth, lustrous surface features an elegant openwork design of a waterside willow and heron." (Long)

Hakogaki by Honma Kaoruyama, "Waterside Willow and Heron Openwork Tsuba," Iron, Round Shape, Round Rim, Openwork Ground. It is said that Honma Kaoruyama, an authority on the study of ancient swords, rarely wrote box inscriptions for sword fittings.
