"This is a high-quality tsuba from the Momoyama period, unsigned, Kyoto-style openwork "Mon-chiri Sukashi Tsuba" (scattered crest openwork tsuba), made of iron, round in shape, with a slightly rounded rim. The iron is of excellent quality with good forging. The design is well-executed, with paulownia crests at the top and bottom, and contrasting crests such as myoga (ginger), ichimegasa (a type of straw hat), and pine bark diamonds. The thin openwork walls are intact and in good condition. " (Long) 7.85cm x 7.78cm x 0.50cm |

![]() It comes in a custom-made tsuba box with an inscription. This was a cherished item of the person (pen name: Hoetsu) who once ran a research group on sword fittings and accessories called the Naniwa Hotsuba-kai. He was involved with the Osaka branch of the Japan Art Sword Preservation Society for many years and is said to have owned many fine pieces. We are also displaying menuki ( ELbellsMen.html ) from the same collector. |
