'KOKUYU'

Return to Tsuba Collective

Provenance:    Elliott Long

Under Study / NFS

"This piece is a masterpiece tsuba, with a well-forged, high-quality jigane that is unique both to gunsmiths and Hirata Hikoso, The inlay, which may look plain at first glance, emits a unique iridescence when observed closely, and the simple yet profound charm is extremely wonderful, making it very popular and tasteful. The unique inlay expresses a flower petal pattern. However, upon further study, the uniform layout of the blisters show this to be a representation of sahari inlay used by the Hazama school. The rim is also covered with gold, making it a very elaborate piece." (Long)
