"A masterpiece tsuba (sword guard) by Matsuba Honyuki, a descendant of Naoyuki of Bungo Province, with a double box inscribed by Hino Shoan, and a specially important sword craftsman, Wakashiba Kizaemon. This famous sword guard was made by Kawachi-no-kami Motoyuki (Matsuba Motoyuki), a descendant of Bungo-no-kuni Ki-no-daifu Yukiharu, who served the Doi family of Karatsu, Hizen Province. He is a master craftsman whose works are designated as Specially Important Swords.
While Honko was a skilled swordsmith, he also produced iron tsuba (sword guards). However, this piece differs from his usual simple works, featuring intricate landscape designs inlaid with gold, silver, and copper. This remarkable craftsmanship, judging from the inlay technique, is clearly the work of the Wakashiba school of tsuba makers from the same province, and furthermore, its quality suggests it was likely done by the first Kizaemon. Since it does not appear to be a later inlay, there was probably a technical exchange with the Wakashiba school from the same Hizen province, and this is likely a valuable collaborative work produced during that time.
Comes with a double box inscribed by Professor Hino Shoan. It is in excellent condition and is a highly valuable historical document related to Matsuba Honko." (Long)
