'KIKAN'

"I have handled many kozuka, but this composition was the first that I have seen. I believe this is an extremely rare piece. Please take your time to view the images as well. This piece is signed by the fine craftsman 'Kikan,' depicting the 'Former Three Great Masters Subduing the Demon Tag' affixed to the pillars with meticulous craftsmanship down to the smallest detail. It is said that the 'Former Three Great Masters Demon Tag' began to be posted throughout Japan around the Edo period, and even in the Senryu of the Edo period, "Kadomatsu, a hidden face, Kado Daishi" and the scene are read. I believe this work is a very interesting piece that captures the atmosphere of that era.

'KIKAN' is read 'YOSHIHIRO' (H 11592.0) who at first was a student of Nara School and then a disciple of the first-generation Tsuchiya Yasuchika, who worked on Yasuchika's substitute works." (Long)

See Haynes Index H 11592.0.
