"This is an iron-based, round, rinpo (openwork) tsuba (sword guard), unsigned, Hoan, with double hitsu-ana holes, openwork, and tsukumimi (small edge) nibs. Among Owari tsuba craftsmen, Yamayoshi I and Hoan I are known as the two greatest. This thin, beautifully forged tsuba is the epitome of ancient elegance. The box inscription by Master Kanzan reads "unsigned, openwork, with a plum blossom crest. Hakogaki dates to 1974." It appears to have been determined to be sand-covered inlay with an openwork pattern. While there is slight aging and rust, the condition is excellent." (Long)

8.06cm x 7.46cm x 0.55cm

Comes with a certificate of special value from the Japan Art Sword Preservation Association. Date of 1972.
