"This piece, created by the renowned Higo craftsman, Hirata Hikozo II, who made a name for himself as a metalworker employed by the Hosokawa family during the Edo period.
On a richly textured copper surface, a dynamic cloud dragon design is depicted with exquisite colored inlay. With its outer perimeter neatly accentuated by a shakudo fukurin, this masterpiece harmoniously blends the refined elegance and robustness characteristic of Higo metalwork. This is a supreme masterpiece of extremely high artistic and historical value, accompanied by an Hakogaki from Sato Kanzan, a leading authority in the world of swords and tosogu." (Long)
