UMETADA

Return to Tsuba Collective

Provenance:   Elliott D. Long $1200.00
"A round copper plate tsuba with a hammered rim and large 'Omodaka' (Shogun-so) plants shown in sukashi and acid etched. Its design was preferred by Samurai not only on tsuba but for the armor decorations and family crests. The artist was very adept in his ability to display such splendor and has a close resemblance with 'Rinpa' school painting works.
Umetada lived in Nishi-jin of Kyoto in the same period with Honami Koetsu and Tawaraya Sotatsu who were the two originators of the Rinpa school.
Dates to Momoyama period, ca. 1600." (Long)
