O-DAI SAOTOME

Return to Tsuba Collective

Provenance: Elliott D. Long POA
"An iron plate tsuba that was mounted on a large katana, pierced in negative sukashi of a 48 petal kiku (chrysanthemum) flower. The spokes join in the center of the plate to the seppa-dai. Some of the spokes appear to be inlaid, some are not but it is manageable to tell based on the quality of the work. There seems to be no regular pattern to which pieces have been inserted. These details are distinct to see with the use of high powered lighting and magnification. The iron appears well forged and finished to represent great validity and endurance. Dates to ca. 1400-1450." (Long)

10.90cm x 10.90cm x 0.70cm
