"Three-story Diamond-studded Paulownia Crest Openwork Tsuba.
This tsuba dates to ca.1500 which is too early to be considered Akasaka Tadatara. The origins of the Akasaka School date back to 1700 when Kariganeya Hikobei, a tsuba dealer in Kyoto, moved to Akasaka in Edo with the first, second, and third generations of metalworkers from the school and began making tsuba. Works made by these three generations are called "Old Akasaka" and are especially highly prized. There are no signed pieces, and they have an Owari style which follows this particuolar piece. This piece is large and is a fine piece made from a sturdy, well-forged iron base with a paulownia crest and three-story diamond pattern." (Long)
