"A very fine kinko tsuba of copper with original patina. The inlay is of gold, silver, and shakudo with copper inlay of owl on a branch being harrassed by smaller plovers. The entire piece is pristine and intact.

The mei reads 'TSURUTANI HIROAKI' with kao. This is an early example of his genuine signature. Refer to H 01297.0 in the Haynes Index. He was a native of Sendai in Mutsu Province, and later moved to Edo." (Long)
