"An oval shibuichi tsuba with a dragon on the omote and a tiger on the ura, both done in excellent katakiri-ba. The kogai-ana filled with shakudo. The condition is perfect. Mei: 'SOYO' with Kao. This is Yokoya Soyo who is the 3rd master of the Yokoya family school. Worked in Edo. He specialized in katakiri carving on shibuichi plate (as shown here) and produced the finest of that style of work that any of the Yokoya school was to make." (Long) |
