'FUSHIMI JU KANEIYE'
|
Provenance: Elliott D. Long | $200.00 or Affordable Offer |
"An iron tsuba in mokko-gata shape, with punch marks and sekigane in the nakago ana. It is provided with kozuka hitsu ana which is original to the piece. The face is carved in a delicate manner in katakiri bori, the carving repeats on the reverse, with both sides having inlayed details.
On the face, the subject depicts three cranes alighting above, partial full moon and mountains rising in the distance. On the back, only the landscape appears. The reverse continues with a rock, reeds and a stream. The quality of the metal is excellent, the workmanship typical, the design lofty, dignified, and carefully worked. Both surfaces show signs of missing patina. Possibly from being discovered buried after the war, it would appear that the tsuba was over cleaned. This tsuba is signed: 'FUSHIMI JU KANEIYE'. This tsuba exhibits many unusual characteristics, one being the gap between the 2 kanji of the Kaneie name. This is a classic example of the Saga Kaneiye school." (Long) 6.05cm x 6.65cm x 0.4cm edge |
