"Oval shape brass tanto tsuba with hammered edge. There is a hitsu-ana which is original to the piece. Dates to ca. 1600-1650.

The design on the omote is of 'Tsuki' (cresent moon) and 'Komori' (flying bat). The moon is inlayed with silver and the bat is shakudo with the black patina missing.

The bat is the only mammal, which is capable of sustained flights like a bird. They use pulse and returning echoes to recognize the image of surroundings, which enables them to hunt in the darkness of night, and it helps them to avoid competition with birds." (Long)
