A brass diamond shape (otafuka) tanto-sized tsuba with a well carved symetrical design of two dragons chasing a jewel. This suggests a theme of Qing Sino-Tibetan design. Dating to late Edo period. History tells us this design originated in ancient Mesopotamia, and repeated on 6th century Silk Road textiles from Central Asia. Now described as KANTON tsuba, which designates goods imported to Japan by Cantonese merchants in Nagasaki. 5.60cm x 6.15cm, seppa 0.35cm to edge 0.75cm |
