"An iron plate having a well-hammered surface (nadekaku) in a square shape with largely rounded corners. The entire surface of both sides having engraved relief known as 'sukibori'. On the front surface is a large anchor with waves, water drops and a small figure holding a tool. On the back surface are more waves with water drops, one figure with a pail and another larger figure hunched over. There are three small triangular shapes in the sky over the waves. The rim is dote mimi and displays much tekkotsu. The inlays are of various metals: gold, copper, and silver.

The theme of this tsuba depicts clam diggers along a shore-line. The large anchor (Ikari) is the device used to hold a vessel to a seabed or beach where there are no mooring facilities. Anchors with four claws are evidence of being used in late Momoyama to early Edo period." (Long)
8.40cm x 7.90cm x 0.67cm (rim)
